Bringing the Stars to Life: Covering the 72nd International Astronautical Congress, Dubai 2021

In October 2021, our team had the distinguished opportunity to film the 72nd International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2021)—an event that marked the first time this global space science gathering took place in the Arab region. Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 25–29, the Congress attracted over 6,500 delegates from 110 countries, alongside 1,500 public participants, under the theme “Inspire, Innovate & Discover for the Benefit of Humankind”

An Unprecedented Gathering of the Global Space Community

The exhibition space at the 72nd IAC was one of the largest and most diverse in the event’s history, bringing together more than 90 exhibitors from international space agencies, private aerospace companies, research institutions, and emerging tech startups. The venue was filled with life-size satellite models, immersive VR experiences, and interactive science zones — all designed to showcase the future of space exploration. The Congress welcomed high-profile guests, including heads of agencies like NASA, ESA, Roscosmos, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, as well as renowned astronauts, scientists, ministers, and global media. The energy of innovation, collaboration, and international dialogue made this exhibition a true centerpiece of the event and a powerful visual story for our cameras to capture.

Production Approach

Our team deployed a full-scale video production setup across multiple halls and locations inside the venue. We used cinematic cameras, gimbals, and dynamic coverage strategies to reflect the energy and scale of the event. Daily social media edits and a final highlight film were delivered on a tight schedule — balancing precision with creativity.

What We Captured

Over the course of several days, we documented every major aspect of the Congress, including:

Opening and closing ceremonies with global space leaders
Keynote speeches and technical sessions on future missions, space sustainability, and satellite innovation
Panel discussions with astronauts, agency directors, and scientists
Exhibition floor featuring the latest in space tech, exploration tools, and international collaborations
Behind-the-scenes moments, informal networking, and cultural events including a gala dinner

Why This Project Mattered

This was more than just another event. It was a historic milestone for the UAE and the Middle East — a region now playing an active role in global space exploration. From the Emirates Mars Mission to the rise of regional innovation hubs, the Congress marked a moment of pride and progress. Being chosen to document it was both an honor and a responsibility we embraced fully.
